80年代の歌姫メリッサ・モーガンが19年ぶりに来日—いままで明かされなかったストーリーが明らかに

That is when they made pure Soul Music. The 70’s and The 80’s was a time when people wrote about what was in their heart. They wrote about what was going on in the world, they wrote from life experiences that EVERYONE was feeling or going through. The 90’s was more hip hop and related more to the streets than the emotions. Music to me is about the emotions that people feel. So, I truly understand why the 70’s and 80’s Sound is making a resurgence. I think it is a good thing. Connecting some of the old sound with the new sound. Good Music Marriage! The Classic will always be here, so why not incorporate them with the sound of now.

——What do your future prospects and plans include?（今後の展望や活動の予定があれば教えてください。）

近いうちにゴスペルをやりたいと思っています。私の本当の始まりのルーツに戻るときが来たと思ったからです。もう一つのR&BのCDや他にももっとたくさんのことをやってみたいです！新しいひねりを加えたクリスマスのCDも作りたいです。いまリリースしている新しいCDとは別に、もう一つシングルをリリースします・・・それが「LOVE DEMANDS」（ラブ・ディマンズ）です。その他のビデオも出します。私が好きなものについての本も出版したいと思っています。ライフスタイル、そして、おそらく私の人生とキャリアについての本です。私は趣味でも多様化しています。かぎ針編みと、「CROCHET BY MELI’SA」というスカーフと毛布の限定ラインのブティックもやっています。私は料理も大好きで、「MELI’SA’S FRUITSTICKS」という美しいフルーツアレンジメントも作ります。

私は自分の生活の中で、歌以外の楽しいことをたくさんしています。生活の中でこれらのすべての素晴らしいことを楽しみにしているだけではなく、アメリカ合衆国と世界を旅することも楽しみの一つです。私は日本に戻ってきてパフォーマンスをするのが楽しみです。すぐに実現することを望んでいます。ファンのためにも日本に戻ってパフォーマンスするのをまた19年も待たせるわけにはいきませんからね。

I would like to do a Gospel CD in the near future. I think it is time to go back to my true beginning roots, where I started. Another R&B CD…. many more of those! I would also like to do a Christmas CD with a new twist. I will be releasing another single off of my New CD that is out now….. “LOVE DEMANDS” as I mentioned. Another Video, too. I would also like to write Release a few Books on things that I like. Lifestyle and possibly one on my life and Career. I am branching out on my hobbies as well. I Crochet and I am doing a limited Boutique line of “CROCHET BY MELI’SA” scarves and blankets to be sold. I Love cooking and crate beautiful Fruit Arrangements…… “MELI’SA’S FRUITSTICKS”.

I do things outside of just singing that I enjoy in my life. Looking forward to all these wonderful thing in my life, as well as touring The United States and The World. I cannot wait to come back to Japan to Perform again. I hope it is real soon. I don’t want to wait another 19 years to come back and Perform for my fans.

インタビューを終えて

メリッサ・モーガンは、Billboard Live Osaka（ビルボードライブ大阪）とBillboard Live TOKYO（ビルボードライブ東京）でショーを行うためにバックグランド・シンガーを含むバンド8人を率いて来日。ショーの前後に少し街を散策するくらいで、観光をしたり、遊んだりすることもなく、休みなく2日間連続、計4公演のパーフォーマンスを行い、その翌日には帰国。パワフルだ。2019年6月5日（水曜日）に東京・Billboard Live TOKYO（ビルボードライブ東京）でのショーを鑑賞させていただいたが、美しく深く太いパワフルな歌声は雰囲気抜群、圧巻の歌声。1980年代の楽曲も新鮮で、メリッサ・モーガンの近年のオリジナル曲も時代に左右されないものとなっている。誰もが頭の曲はこれだ！と言う「Still in Love with You」（スティル・イン・ラブ・ウィズ・ユー）からスタートし、2曲目にはアレサ・フランクリンの名曲「I Never Loved a Man (The Way I Love You)」（アイ・ネヴァー・ラブド・ア・マン（ザ・ウェイ・アイ・ラブ・ユー）／邦題「貴方だけを愛して」）のカヴァーで一気にMuscle Shoals（マッスル・ショールズ）の世界になり、痺れた。その後もアップテンポ、スロー、ミディアムテンポ・・・会場が教会と化したり、ディスコと化したり、ロックンロールだったり、音を感じる感情が大忙し。色んなアプローチでオーディエンスを楽しませた。本番前、Billboard Live TOKYO（ビルボードライブ東京）の楽屋に入ると、バンドやバックグランド・シンガーがサウンドチェックをするのみで、メリッサ・モーガンはリハーサルをしない。私と会い、インタビューを受けるためだけにリハーサルの場に現れた。リハーサルなしで、あの歌声とパフォーマンスは凄まじいとしか言いようがない。本当に素晴らしかった。
